Meet our Board of Directors - Daria Cooper

At Girls on the Run of Greater Knoxville, our volunteers are the heartbeat of everything we do.

From coaches who bring our evidence-based curriculum to life, to event volunteers who make event days magical, to board members who guide our vision - our work simply wouldn’t be possible without them. This series celebrates the people who make it all happen and offers a closer look at the many ways volunteers power our mission.

Meet our Board Treasurer, Daria!

The Basics

Your Name: Daria Cooper

What is your current job title and company? Audit Manager - Pugh CPAs

Your GOTR Journey

How did you first get involved with Girls on the Run? What inspired you to join the board? I learned about GOTR from Amelea Everett, the current Executive Director, who was looking for a new Treasurer and needed some leads. I was moved by the mission and offered to fulfill the Treasurer's role myself.

What part of the Girls on the Run mission resonates with you the most and why? As the Treasurer, the part that truly clicks for me is the mission to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident through a fun curriculum. It's the ultimate proof that the financial resources and the responsible operations I oversee are directly resulting in positive, tangible change for these girls.

What is one of your favorite GOTR moments or memories? I absolutely loved volunteering at the 2025 Covenant Health Marathon with the GOTR Board. Even though it was absolutely pouring rain, everyone showed up with such dedication and warmth for the community we served. Seeing that genuine commitment, no matter the occasion and circumstances, truly made me so proud to be part of an organization that gives its absolute best in everything we do.

A Little More About You

What's a piece of advice you would give to your younger self? You already have everything you need to be amazing. Never be afraid to be exactly who you are, because your unique way of seeing the world is a superpower! Always try your hardest, not to be perfect, but just to see what you're truly capable of—whether it’s on the running track, in the classroom, or being a kind friend. And remember, mistakes aren't roadblocks but clues that tell you how to try again, only better!

Favorite place to run or walk in Knoxville? Oh, picking a favorite place to run in Knoxville is tough, but I'd have to go with the Lakeshore Park Greenway. You just can't beat that flat, paved path and those gorgeous, wide-open views of the Tennessee River. Plus it's always buzzing with other runners and walkers!
